Asia Motors Automotive manufacturer South Korean

Asia Motors was a South Korean manufacturer established in Gwangju for of off-road vehicles, trucks, buses, and at first manufacturing special military vehicles, engines and other automotive components founded in 1965 .By the 1970s between 1970 and 1973, the Fiat 124 was produced in Korea as a joint venture with Fiat .

Kia took over the manufacturer in 1976. Since the Hyundai Group took over Kia Motors in 1998, Asia Motors was completely merged with Kia Motors in 1999 and the Hyundai Motor Group was formed.

The brand's main product is the Jeep-like Asia Rocsta , built from 1990 to 1999. After the Asian crisis in 1997, the takeover of Kia and the discontinuation of the Asia brand , the successor Retona was sold mainly as the Kia Retona .

In Australia there is still an independent company Asia Motors Australia Pty Ltd. , which, however, only uses the name Asia and mainly sells buses.
