Lyncar Engineering

Lyncar was a Formula One constructor from the United Kingdom. They participated in two grand prix races in the 1970s.

History

Martin Slatera a designer for Lola, Brabham and March race teams previously built and raced his own cars. The Lyncar 005 was fitted with a McLaren engine then the New Zealand racing driver John Nicholson commissioned a 1973 Lyncar monoposto race car, which he also wanted to race in Formula 1. The Lyncar 006 was an uncomplicated car with a Ford V8 engine and aluminium monocoque with outboard brakes. The suspension was taken from the Lyncar 001, with the Nicholson 1973 secured the championship title in the Formula Atlantic.

The front end of the race car went over its entire width and had a small adjustable front wing. Nicholson denied in 1974 with the 006 two non-world championship races in the UK and tried in vain to qualify for the Grand Prix. In 1975, the car had its only use in a world championship race. At the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Nicholson was ranked 17th despite an accident in the rain.

In 1976, the Spanish racing driver Emilio de Villota acquired the car and was later updated with the 006 and 1977 in the Aurora AFX Formula 1 series De Villota won at Mallory Park in 1977, it was the only race win of the 006.
