History
The Buick Lacrosse is one among the American car brand Buick sold since 2004 in North America four-door sedan with front-wheel drive. It replaces the previous Buick models Century and Regal.
In Canada, the model was offered in the first generation under the name Buick Allure. For the Canadian market, according to the US car magazine Car & Driver a renaming was inevitable, after it was discovered that the term Lacrosse means in the dialect of Quebec " Masturbation ". However, with the model change to the second generation, the model is also sold in Canada as a Buick Lacrosse. GM justified this with the fact that in Quebec the term Lacrosse was also accepted in relation to the sport of the same name and the model could be better marketed under a uniform name.
The second generation of the Lacrosse was unveiled in January 2009 (as a model year 2010 vehicle) at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It is strongly based on the concept of the Buick Invicta and is based on the General Motors Epsilon II platform that used a long-wheelbase, which also forms the basis for the Opel Insignia. The new Lacrosse competes, according to the company, for the very popular in the US Lexus ES. A Large selection of petrol engines from 2.4 litre Ecotec four-cylinder to a larger 3.6 litre V6 from around 180 to 300 hp for the most powerful model all now front wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
The second-generation Lacrosse was produced at the Fairfax plant in Kansas City and offered at prices starting at $ 26,245 (as of April 2010). At the New York International Auto Show 2013, a revised version was introduced, which came on the market in 2014. In China, Shanghai-GM built its own Lacrosse between 2007 and 2016, which is related to the US model of the first generation, but has a completely unique body and other engines (2.4-liter with 125 kW / 168 hp or Three-litre V6 with 131 kW / 176 hp). The prices amount (as of February 2008) to 217,000 to 300,000 yuan. With the introduction of the third Lacrosse generation, it is also offered in China. Roewe has been producing a sedan under the name Roewe 950 since 2012, largely based on the Buick Lacrosse.
