The Cadillac Escalade is a SUV or pickup of the Cadillac brand from General Motors. The basis for the series is chassis from the GM Group, with the Escalade serving the upper market segment. The first generation came on the market in 1998.
History
The first generation of the Escalade was in autumn 1998 as a direct competitor to the Lincoln Navigator presented, High end features include wood trim air conditioning w/automatic climate control, rear air conditioning controls, auto-dimming mirrors with automatic headlamps. The basis was the GMT-400 chassis. Apart from the emblems, the Escalade resembled the GMC Yukon Denali which was then on the market. General Motors wanted to position its premium brand Cadillac as quickly as possible on the market of luxury-class SUVs. Fitted with Bose CD player stereo with subwoofer and six-CD changer leather-wrapped/wood tilt steering wheel, cruise control, leather upholstery, 10-way power front bucket seats, heated front and rear seats, split folding rear seat, center console, overhead console (universal garage door opener, rear audio controls, rear headphone jacks), wood interior trim, cupholders, heated power mirrors w/automatic day/night, power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry gave the car that great Cadillac luxury feel .
The same 5.7-liter V8 engine (referred to by GM as the 5.7L Vortec 5700 V8) was used in the engine as well as in the GMC Yukon the Maximum towing capacity is 6500 pounds. The vehicles of this generation were all equipped with the four-wheel drive system Autotrac 4 × 4 by GM. The first generation was sold 52,435 times in the US the 5.7-liter V-8 engine with 4-speed automatic transmission, part-time automatic 4-wheel drive, electronic two-speed transfer case transmission oil cooler, 235/70R16 tires, chrome alloy wheels, automatic locking front hubs, driver and passenger-side air bags, anti-lock brakes, daytime running lights, variable-assist power steering.
The Cadillac Escalade also features clock, tachometer, trip odometer, oil pressure gauge, coolant temperature gauge, automatic day/night rear view mirror, compass, out-side temperature display, auxiliary power outlets, intermittent wipers,rear defogger, rear wiper/washer, illuminated visor mirrors, automatic headlights, cargo cover, floormats, theft-deterrent system, deep-tinted rear glass, fog lights, running boards, 8-lead trailer wiring harness, trailer hitch.
The model is available in three body styles introduced at different times :
- Escalade: Introduced in the fall of 1998 variant based on the GMT-400 chassis, such as the Chevrolet Tahoe.
- ESV: Introduced in early 2002, the long version based on the GMT-800 chassis, such as the Chevrolet Suburban.
- EXT: A mid-2002 introduced pickup version based on the GMT-800 chassis.
