In response to the Ford Falcon Chevrolet introduced in September 1961, in contrast to the Chevrolet Corvair , very conventional designed (front-engined, rear-wheel drive ) Chevy II. In the series 100, 300 and Nova two-door coupes, four-door sedans, three- and five-door combination models and a convertible were offered. The choice was a 2.5-liter OHV four-cylinder (66 kW / 91 SAE-PS) and a 3.2-liter OHV inline six-cylinder engine (90 kW / 122 SAE-PS) as well as a three-speed manual transmission and a powerglide two speed automatic.

1963 was the first time the super sports package for the Chevy II Nova available, which was of course predominantly optical nature. 1964 accounted for the series 300 and the convertible and the Nova Super Sport was run as a separate equipment line; new in the offer was a 4.6-liter V8 (146 kW / 198 SAE-PS).

Super Sports

Out of 122,800 Chevy IIs built for 1965, only 9,100 were Super Sports. For 1965, For the model year 1966 was a thorough overhaul of the body with new front and rear sections; the motor supply has been greatly expanded and now filed by the four-cylinder up to a 261 kW (355 SAE-hp) 6.4 liter V8 reached in 200 Nova SS . The equipment lines continued to be called 100, Nova and Nova Super Sport. The strongest engine in model year 1967 was a 205 kW (279 hp) carrying 5.4-liter.

The Chevy II / Nova of the first generation produced a large 1.25 million in 6 years.
