In autumn 2006 Chrysler Sebring presented a new (internal type name: JS) on the basis of jointly developed with Mitsubishi GS - platform , on which also, for example, the Dodge Caliber is based. Its market launch took place in early 2007. In July 2007, the convertible of the third generation Sebring appeared, which in turn is based on the platform of the associated sedan. The sedan and the Cabriolet were manufactured at the Sterling Heights plant in Michigan ( USA ) parallel to the Dodge Avenger .
The engine is powered by either a new 2.0 or 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine (from GEMA, a joint venture of DaimlerChrysler, Mitsubishi and Hyundai ) or the Chrysler's own V6 engines with 2.7 and 3, 5 liters displacement. For Europe, there was also a turbo diesel engine from Volkswagen in conjunction with a manual six-speed transmission , which was also installed in the Dodge Avenger and Dodge Caliber. Optionally available with the 2.7-liter V6 engine was a flexible-fuel engine , which in addition to conventional gasoline also with E-85 fuelcan be refueled. The power transmission in this engine is done with a six-speed automatic transmission, the 2.4-liter R4 engine via a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive .For the first time, the Cabriolet was available with three different electrically retractable convertible top versions: a vinyl roof, a fabric roof and a retractable steel hardtop painted in body color . All roof versions can be opened at the push of a button on the car key.
All models have front independent suspension with MacPherson struts, coil springs with gas pressure shock absorbers and stabilizer with uncoupled carrier frame and at the rear a multi-link suspension with coil springs and stabilizer, gas shock absorbers and decoupled rear frame support. The steering is a speed-dependent rack-and-pinion power steering , the turning circle is 11.13 meters.
The c W value of 0.331 is significantly higher than the comparable European mid-range models, the Cabriolet is 0.34.
The Chrysler Sebring could optionally be equipped with the MyGIG system. This is a CD / DVD / HDD / MP3 / satellite navigation radio with a 20 gigabyte - hard drive and a 6.5-inch TFT screen with touch screen function. The MyGIG system can be voice-activated, has a USB port and allows you to store and play music, sound, movies and individual images.
In late 2010, Chrysler finished the production of the Sebring sedan and convertible. At the end of 2010, production of the Sebring was also discontinued. As a successor to the beginning of 2011 applies to the American market introduced Chrysler 200 .
