The Dodge Omni 024 and the identical Plymouth Horizon TC3 were sports coupes based on the Dodge Omni .
History
In the fall of 1978 appeared the coupe variants of Dodge Omni and Plymouth Horizon with the technology of sedans, but completely independent body line with oblique snout, hatchback and in the tailgate integrated spoiler. Their wheelbase was shortened from 252 to 245.6 cm, but the outer length of 439 cm was 20 cm larger.
Available were the coupes, like the sedans, initially only with the 1.7-liter from Volkswagen and only in one trim level. This could, however, be upgraded by a sports package.
In the 1980 model year appeared the Dodge Omni 024 DeTomaso , to which there was no Plymouth parallel model. Despite the name evoking sporty associations, it was a pure optical package, the DeTomaso driver had to settle for 66 hp. At Plymouth, instead, there was a new Turismo package that included alloy wheels, matte black paint and a sporty-looking interior.
From 1981, the models were called only Dodge 024 or Plymouth TC3 .
1981 was in DeTomaso the new 2.2-liter with 85 hp as standard, which there was an additional charge in all other Dodge and Plymouth versions of the coupe. Like the sedans, so the Coupes 1981/82 were offered in Miser version with Spartan features and longer rear axle ratio.
From model year 1983, the models were slightly modified as Dodge Charger or Plymouth Turismo further built.
By then, the Dodge Omni 024 had produced a total of approximately 170,000 copies (of which 1952 in DeTomaso version and 14,400 Charger) and of the Plymouth Horizon TC3 just over 200,000 made(including about 8,000 Turismo).
