History
From 1983, a four-door sedan and two-door coupes and convertibles were marketed under the model name Dodge 600:The sedan was the sister model of the Chrysler E Class and the Plymouth Caravelle , of which they differed only by insignificant details, and based like this on the E-platform . It was a 76 mm extended version of the K platform .To distinguish these are the convertibles and coupes. They had been marketed in the model years 1981 and 1982 as Dodge 400 and received from 1983, without having to learn technical changes, the name Dodge 600th They took advantage of the shorter wheelbase of K-Cars and were thus apart from the grille and equipment details with the two-door base model Dodge Aries identical.
The 600 models were powered by various four-cylinder engines, which were transversely mounted transversely:The base engine was Chrysler's own in-line four-cylinder with a capacity of 2.2 liters. This was initially available only as a naturally aspirated engine. From 1984 to 1988 was optionally available a turbo version of the 2.2-liter four-cylinder.From 1983 to 1985, a 2.6-liter four-cylinder engine from Mitsubishi was ordered. From 1986, instead of the Mitsubishi engine developed by Chrysler four-cylinder naturally aspirated with 2.5 liters displacement available.
The Dodge 600 was equipped with a digital instrument cluster with fluorescent display, there was the Electronic Voice Alert (EVA), the warnings of the instrument cluster announced.
In 1986, all variants received a facelift with a modified, roundish front end. The coupe and the convertible were discontinued in the summer of 1986 without replacement, the sedan remained until the summer of 1988 in the program.
Overall, Dodge made of the 600 saloon (1982-1988) around 230,000, from the coupe 37,700 and the convertible (1983-1986) 41,200 copies. The badge engineering for the Hongqi CA750F never went into production in China. The Dodge 600 was sold in Mexico under the name Dodge Magnum .
