The Ferrari 812 Superfast (internally: F152M ) is a Gran Turismo of the Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari.
History
First presented at the 87th Geneva Motor Show in March 2017 and replaces the Ferrari F12berlinetta in the model hierarchy . The name 812 Superfast is composed of the wording 8 which identifies the 800 HP of the engine, 12 for its cylinders and Superfast to recall the predecessor Ferrari 500 Superfast from 1964.With an output of 588 kW (800 hp), the 812 Superfast is the most powerful Ferrari ever built in series. It is important to note here that Ferrari probably refers to the pure power of the engine, as the laferrari also has a V8 engine capable of generating up to 800 hp, but has a hybrid system output of 708 kW (963 hp).
At the front you can see the LED headlights and there are air intakes on the bonnet, while at the rear you can see the four circular tail lights placed parallel to the four exhaust tailpipes and a diffuser in the same colour as the bodywork. The bodywork features a specific colour for this model called Rosso Settanta Anni, created to celebrate the anniversary of the company of the same name.
The 812 Superfast was designed and developed at the Ferrari Style Centre located in Maranello. The design is inspired by the F12 Berlinetta, although it takes some stylistic cues from the GTC4 Lusso; the volume and the rear part of the Berlinetta recalls some aesthetics of the 365 Daytona with a tapered tail in the fastback style. Also, from an aerodynamic point of view it presents numerous innovations, with enlarged air intakes to facilitate flow of air to the engine and brakes, rear conveyors and aerodynamic appendages to increase technology, which guarantees greater stability and control when driving through a Virtual Short Wheelbase. It also features 20" rims and have a measurement of 275/35 at the front and 315/35 at the rear respectively.
In September 2019, the spider 812 GTS version Berlinetta was presented. The acronym stands for Gran Turismo Spider and technically it is a cabrio coupé or it has a hard metal roof that can be folded electronically in the boot, called RHT "Retractable Hardtop". Despite having 75 kg more weight (due precisely to the roof system), it maintains the same performance as the 812. With this model the Ferrari returns to making a production V12 spider 50 years after the Spider Daytona.
Technical data
The 812 Superfast is equipped with a 6.5-liter V12 engine that delivers 588 kW (800 hp) at 8500 rpm. The maximum torque of 718 Nm is at 7000 rpm are available. The car has rear-wheel drive and a semi-automatic dual - clutch transmission that can downshift in three seconds within 1.2 seconds.
It is equipped with the engine called F140 GA, a V12 from 65° with increased displacement to 6.5 litres (6496 cm³) to increase performance, with power of 800 HP at 8500 rpm and a torque of 718 Nm at 7000 rpm, with a Berlinetta-coupé front-engine and rear-wheel drive; the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is covered in 2.9 seconds and the maximum speed is over 350 km/h, proven by some videos online. To increase power without the aid of turbocharging systems, the technicians of the Modena company worked on the direct injection system which, thanks to variable geometry intake ducts, derived from those used in naturally aspirated F1 cars of the past, with an injection pressure of 350 bar, it allows for greater fluidity of unit delivery at all rotation speeds.
In 2021, the new 812 Competizione (internal code F152M VS) with 30 horsepower more powerful, around 38 kg lighter and with more extreme aerodynamics.
The car is equipped with all 4 wheels that can be steered independently: a solution that also allows the rear wheels, as well as the front ones, to adjust the steering radius independently when entering corners and restarting. The electronics therefore intervene on each individual wheel, which steers completely independently of the other three. The car improves from all dynamic and technical points of view, in particular, in addition to the lighter weight and greater power, the improvement made on the gearbox is worth mentioning: gearshift times, in fact, have been reduced by 5% compared to the standard car.
The 812 Competizione was produced in two versions: coupé in 999 examples and in targa version in 599 examples called "812 Competizione A" ; where A stands for "Open". The latter is equipped with a roof solution that is completely different from that of the 812 GTS: it does not have an electronically folding roof like the 812 GTS, but rather a "hardtop" manually removable in the trunk, a solution that does not compromise performance on the track.
The aesthetics of the two versions, coupé and Targa, differ slightly, with the main change being the rear part of the roof.
