The Honda Accord is a mid-size car of the Japanese car manufacturer Honda . The seventh generation appeared  in 2002 and was distributed until 2008.

History

The seventh generation of the Accord sedan was tailored to the needs of different markets with 4 Stars in the Euro NCAP  crash test. For Japan and Europe, this model change, which took place in late 2002, saw a joint model made in Japan. In the spring of 2003, after the sedan again a station wagon was brought to the market, listening to the name Tourer. Depending on the competition, it was equipped with 2.0 l and 2.4 l engines. In addition, there were for some markets all-wheel versions and sporting variants such as the "Euro R" and on the North American market the Acura TSX .

In Australia and New Zealand this model was offered under the name Accord Euro. For the current European sedan , the four equipment lines "Comfort", "Sport", "Executive" and "Type S" are available.

The customer was able to choose between a 2.0 l and a 2.4 l i-VTEC petrol engine with an output of 114 kW or 140 kW. Alternatively, an i-CTDi diesel model with 103 kW was available. The 2.2 liter i-CTDi diesel engine has also been used in the Honda CR-V , the Honda FR-V and the Honda Civic 8th generation.

Six airbags as well as ABS and VSA contributed to the safety in the Accord. The Accord was equipped as standard with CD player and climate control. In Japan, this Accord sedan in conjunction with the V6-3,0-li VTEC engine with cylinder deactivation in 2003 complemented the Honda Inspire , which is to document the affiliation of the "big" Accord to the upper class of the automotive industry. Noteworthy: Honda offered in the Inspire for the first time elements of HiDS (such as IHCC , LKAS and CMBS ). Also, with the help of Active Noise Cancellation(ANC) Fights noise. In the only offered in Japan "Accord Euro R" similarly selected and prepared engines were installed as in the Type R variants of Accord, Civic and Integra .

Japanese buyers could choose between front and four-wheel drive , with the four-wheel drive model was only available with an automatic transmission. Otherwise there were manual five- and six-speed transmissions. In North and South America, Australia, New Zealand and Asia (outside of Japan) was the model change of the Accord sedan as the Japanese-European model at the end of 2002. The larger of the two variants was developed and produced in the US. In North America, there was the sedan with the 2.4 l VTEC engine or the already known from its predecessor 3.0 l V6 engine with VTEC-Technology. The V6 engine was initially delivered here only with a five-speed automatic transmission. Later, a manual six-speed transmission was added. In the other countries, a manual five-speed transmission was usually offered as standard and optional the five-speed automatic transmission. In some Asian and South American countries, a sedan with the 2.0 ltr VTEC engine of the stream was offered as an entry-level model . In order to meet regulatory requirements, Honda offered the Accord in North America from 2004 with a V6 hybrid drive.

Also in late 2002, Honda completed the model change in the American sedan. She had a larger wheelbase , a larger track width and a wider body . Here again a V6 engine was installed, which also found use in the coupe. This "big" Accord sedan was offered in the Asian countries outside of Japan and in Japan under the name Honda Inspire , except in North and Central and South America . Since 2004, it has even been ordered in North America with a V6 hybrid drive.

Mid-2006, a facelift was made on the Accord. The bumper, grille, bonnet and headlights were revised and the interior got a fine finish. In addition, the 2.2 i-CDTi received a six-speed transmission.

The coupe was like its predecessor by the Honda of America Mfg. developed in the USA and also built exclusively there. The coupe was sold exclusively in the US and Canada.

The basis for the coupe was the shortened chassis of the American sedan. Two engine variants with 2.4 l and the V6 with 3.0 l displacement as well as two equipment variants were offered.

The consistent development of the vehicles for the different markets leads among others to the fact that a large station wagon is offered only in Japan and Europe on the basis of the Japanese sedan under the name Accord Wagon or Accord Tourer.

The Tourer was delivered in Europe in the entry-level model with a 2.0 engine or a 2.4-liter DOHC engine with i- VTEC technology. Only in Europe also Honda's first self-developed diesel engine was used. The wagon was offered in Japan only with a 2.4-liter engine, but could be combined with four-wheel drive.

In the station wagon, a rear axle construction deviating from the saloon was used to allow a deep, flat loading area. Noteworthy: Japan offered the Accord Wagon with Honda's driver relief and support system HiDS  ( H onda i ntelligent D river S upport System - Driver Assistance System).
