Mitsubishi 3A9 engine

Mitsubishi 3A9 engine (2003-)

Mitsubishi 3A9 engine, this is a in-line 3-cylinder gasoline engines from Mitsubishi Motors from 2003 on .

History

The Mitsubishi 3A9 engine is a small in-line 3-cylinder petrol engine with Displacement of 1.0L ,1.1L and 1.2L built from 2003 on. Fitted depending on location in the Mitsubishi Mirage, Colt, Attrage and also the Mercedes Smart Forfour.

Developed in 2003 at the same time as the 4A9, the 3A91 type was first installed in the European specification Colt this was the only variation until 2011.

From 2012, the 3A90 and 3A92 will be installed on the Mirage. The technical characteristics are almost the same as the 4A9, but MIVEC is not adopted except for the 3A90 and 3A92 for the 6th generation Mirage. Previously, like the 4A9, it was manufactured by Daimler 's subsidiary MDC Power GmbH in Germany, but now it is manufactured at the Powertrain Factory in Kyoto City. The engine type in Mercedes-Benz of the 3A91 type is M134.

3A90 MIVEC is a phase change type (intake side only). The intake closing timing at the most retarded MIVEC is set to some extent late, and the late closing reduces pumping loss and operates in a manner similar to a late closing mirror cycle at light loads, contributing to improved fuel efficiency.
