In Europe, the Compass models were delivered with the Freedom Drive I called four - wheel drive . The engine for all models was a straight four-cylinder gasoline engine with 2.4-liter displacement and 125 kW (170 hp). The power was transmitted via a manually shifted five-speed gearbox or optionally a continuously variable V-belt transmission. In addition, only in Europe, the Compass with a 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine (2.0 CRD) with 103 kW (140 hp). This four-cylinder engine comes from the VW Group and corresponds to the 2.0 TDI engine known there. It is equipped as standard with a diesel particulate filter in the Compass. The power transmission was via a manually operated six-speed transmission,

In China, there is the BAW 007 since 2008, a sister model, which uses the technology of Compass. The launch of the original Jeep model in China in August 2010, required a facelift of their model for both companies.

Facelift (2011-2016)

Jeep Compass specifications 1st Gen (2010-2016)

Chrysler re-launched the Compass in 2011 under Fiat leadership, in January in the US and in May in Europe. The model has been heavily revised in front and rear and in the interior and also received modified engines. As the motors for all models was a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with R4 115 kW (156 hp) and the 2.4-liter gasoline engine with R4 125 kW (170 hp). In March 2011, the 2.0 CRD diesel engine was replaced by a 2.2 CRD with 100 kW (136 hp) and 120 kW (163 hp).

The two more powerful engines are available with all-wheel drive ("Freedom Drive I"), the two weaker engines equipped with pure front-wheel drive.

The Jeep Compass, like the other models of the brand, contributes to the Fiat Group's growing success with high growth rates. In the US alone, sales increased from 11,700 units in 2009 to around 53,000 units in 2013.
