History
The Saloon version of the Astra hatchback, Belmont was launched January 1986 on the British market At Birmingham the same year. The Vauxhall Belmont was the counterpart to the notchback Vauxhall Astra Mk2 just for the British market. The independent name as a more luxury car above the Astra and like the main competitors Ford, with the Escort and Ford Orion versions.
The Belmont was Front-wheel drive the Suspension Front independent, MacPherson struts. anti-roll bar at the rear. independent trailing arms and torsion beam compound crank mini bloc coil springs and dampers anti roll bar.
The Belmont, came with a large boot compared to the Ford Orion. Outside the UK both were sold as a saloon version of the Opel Kadett E.A new model was also introduced called the SRi both this and the top model. GLSi, have more efficient 1.8 litre Injection engine. This Roomy GLSi saloon and folding rear seat electric windows and central locking.
Later it was decided to unify the model names in 1991 in England, the names of the models and market just as Vauxhall Astra.
