The Armstrong Siddeley 4/14 hp is a car built by the British manufacturer Armstrong Siddeley from 1923 to 1929. This was the third model of the manufacturer.

History

The company soon found that it could not exist on one expensive model, so they brought out a smaller six of 18 hp in 1922, and followed this
with a 14 hp four in 1923. The 4/14 hp was the smallest model of the manufacturer until the end of the 1920s.

This had a top-mounted overhead valves; four cylinder in-line engine with a capacity of 1852 cc (bore × stroke = 76.2 mm × 101.6 mm). The performance is max power, 35 bhp at 3500 rpm. The maximum speed is given as ax speed' approx 50 mph/80 kmh. Like the 30 hp and the 18 hp, the 4/14 hp also had two rigid axles.track, front and rear. 56 in (142 cm).

Suspension: non-independent; rigid front axle and live rear axle: semi-elliptic leaf springs, front and rear.  however, both axles hung on semi-elliptic longitudinal plate springs, while in the two larger models, the rear axle had cantilever suspension .Transmission: three-speed manual gearbox.Brakes: drum (on four wheels from 1925).

This was the first Armstrong-Siddeley fitted a flat radiator in place of the vee which was fitted to the larger cars. The car and sold well.

In June 1925 appeared the 4/14 hp Mark II . The car was slightly larger than its predecessor, but engine and other technical characteristics remained the same., Among improvements were front wheel brakes and a longer chassis, while bodies were lower and more attractive.

The Sandown tourer had moe sporty slanted doors. Other standard bodies on the 14 hp were a saloon and a two- seater with dickey seat.

The 14 hp was dropped after 1929, when Armstrongs went over to an all- six-cylinder range. They only made one Other four-cylinder car, the Sapphire 234 from 1956 to 1958.

From both models together 13,365 copies were built. 1929, the model was discontinued without successor. Only after the Second World War Armstrong Siddeley should again offer a four-cylinder model.
