The EA827 1.6 liters With 70 to 110 HP. in China for the Santana in the 1.6-liter variant was further built until 2013. Developed by Franz Hauk, the long-time head of engine design at Audi . The motors of this series are considered the most-built engines in the VW group.
The overhead camshaftis toothed belt driven and operates the parallel hanging valves via bucket tappets . The oil sump of wet sump lubrication and the distributor of ignitionsit at the ends of an inclined shaft, which is driven by helical gears of a so-called intermediate shaft. The intermediate shaft in turn is driven at half the crankshaft speed via the toothed belt. Originally, the engines of the series were equipped with carburetors, later they were converted to intake manifold injection. In the mid-1970s, the engines were powerful, economical, revving and lightweight.
fuel ecotronic carburettor, KE-Jetronic, Simos AFX has VWSA Bosch MP9 injection aspiration cast aluminum intake manifold, plastic variable length intake manifold, cast iron exhaust manifold.

A 1,715 cc engine, originally used in the German Volkswagen Iltis, was also used mainly in the US market Scirrocos, Rabbits and Jettas but also in the Audi 4000 B2. It was built in Volkswagen of America's plant in New Stanton, Pennsylvania. This engine was also used in the Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon family of cars from 1978 until 1983. Power ranged from 63 to 75 hp (47 to 56 kW) in the Chrysler applications.
