The Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO (internally R5) is a racing car of the Audi brand , which was used in 1989 in the American IMSA GTO racing series.
History
The car following previous successes in rallying and winning the also in the United States settled Trans-AM Series in 1988 with the Audi 200 quattro Trans-AM the superiority of quattro drive also demonstrate in the streets. It is the only race car Audi uses at the factory based on the Audi 80/90 B3 .
Although the body of the 90 quattro IMSA GTO has similarities with the production model Audi 90, it has nothing in common with it other than the standard steel roof laid down in the regulations. The body consists of a grid frame on which the outer skin is made of plastic. So the weight could be reduced to 1206 kilograms.
