History
The first generation was based on the GM Delta platform . The first cobalt was produced in the GM plant Lordstown. A Pontiac version was sold in the US and Mexico as G5 Pursuit.
The vehicle was available as a 2 door coupe as well as a four-door. Both versions were available with either a 2.2-liter or a 2.4-liter Ecotec gasoline engine . The power is transmitted via a manual five-speed gearbox or optionally via a four-speed automatic transmission . With independent front suspension with MacPherson struts, and semi-independent torsion beam rear.
The top model is the "SS Supercharged", which is equipped with a 2.0 l Ecotec compressor - and manual five-speed gearbox.Since the "SS Supercharged" no longer met the more stringent emission regulations in force in the US since 2008 , production was discontinued at the end of 2007. In early 2008 a new SS model was introduced, this time with a powerful 260 hp (194 kW) four-cylinder turbocharged. At the Nürburgring , the Cobalt SS / TC (TurboCharged) held in 2007 the class record for compact sports cars with front-wheel drive.
The weight distribution of the coupe is 60: 40 and the four-door at 59: 41. In the summer of 2010, the production of Cobalt was discontinued.
