The Corvette Stingray (C7) is the successor of the expired in early 2013 sports car Corvette C6 by General Motors .

History

A concept study "Corvette C7 Stingray Concept" was presented to the public at the end of February 2009 at the Chicago Auto Show. In January 2012 first Erlkönig photos of the new generation became known. Chevrolet referred to the model in the US as " Chevrolet 2014 Corvette Stingray ". The official name for Europe's Corvette Stingray , sometimes called Chevrolet also Corvette Stingray 2014 .

The Corvette C7 was introduced to the public on January 13, 2013 (the night before the opening of the Detroit Auto Show); A big surprise was the announcement that the new Corvette will carry the surname "Stingray", which has been unused for more than 30 years. The car came to Europe in December 2013 the market  .

The chassis of the Corvette Stingray C7 consists of aluminum and magnesium components and should be 49 kilograms lighter than its predecessor. The body is made of plastic, many parts of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (KFK, "Carbon").

Good weight management allows a weight distribution of 50:50 between both axes; This is ensured, for example, by the standard production KFK bonnet and the Targa roof, which can be removed as in the previous versions.

Instead of the originally planned mid-engine , the Corvette Stingray C7 - as its predecessor - has a conventional front- wheel drive with rear-wheel drive and for better weight distribution rear-mounted gearbox. The basic version of the C7 will receive the 2012 presented LT1 engine with 6.2 liters of displacement, which can develop 630 Nm of maximum torque and 343 kW (466 hp) makes - the C7 is thus the strongest base Corvette, there was previously. The LT1 engine is the first engine in the new 5th generation of GM's small-block engines; It combines various technologies such as direct injection , cylinder deactivation and variable valve timing .This also allows a reduction in gasoline consumption, which consumes the C7 12 liters as a coupe, and 12.2l as a convertible to NEDC. In the Corvette Stingray C7, a special sound engineering system is used for the first time. When switching between eight and four-cylinder operation, exhaust valves from Tenneco optimize the exhaust gas flow and regulate the exhaust noise with targeted opening and closing procedures.

The Corvette is available with either a 7-speed manual gearbox or, since model year 2015, an 8-speed automatic transmission with shift paddles on the steering wheel. Previously there was a 6-speed automatic.

The base price for the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray (model year 2015) is € 79,500 for the coupe and € 84,500 for the convertible .

The Corvette C7 Grand Sport is located between the basic version Stingray and the C7 Z06. It has a race-proven lightweight chassis and an aerodynamic package for better grip and handling. The Grand Sport features dry sump lubrication, Z06 stabilizers and dampers, slotted disc brakes, multi-piston front and rear calipers, wider wheel arches and rims, and a Grand Sport emblem.

C7 Z06

The Corvette C7 Z06 was unveiled a year after the Corvette C7 Stingray at the Detroit Auto Show on January 13, 2014. It is after the C2 Z06 (only 1963, built in 199 copies), C5 Z06 and the C6 Z06 the fourth model of the series "Z06".The car has for the first time the Targa roof of the normal Corvette, with the chassis open 20% more torsionally stiff than that of the C6 Z06 with firmly bolted roof.

The new LT4 V8 aluminum engine has a displacement of 6.2 liters, a compressor and dry sump lubrication . According to GM, it produces 485 kW (650 SAE bhp ) and generates a maximum torque of 881 Newton meters (650 lb * ft ).The Z06 will be delivered with the manual 7-speed gearbox or a new 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Z07 performance package is available for the Grand Sport and the Z06 Coupé. It consists of larger side skirts, larger end plates for the front splitter and an adjustable, transparent Gurney flap on the rear wing (only for the Z06). The result is the highest output value GM has ever measured in a production model. A specially-tuned chassis with Magnetic Selective Ride Control ensures that the Z06 or Grand Sport retains its grip even with strong side forces. This is additionally supported by the standard performance traction management and the electronic limited slip differential. The brake system with carbon ceramicBrembo provides Brembo and is used in similar form in endurance races. The front calipers have 6 pistons and the rear 4 pistons. The brake discs are about 50% lighter than corresponding cast iron discs.

C7 ZR1

In 2017, Chevrolet presented the Corvette C7 ZR1 as a coupe at the Dubai International Motor Show and as a convertible at the LA Auto Show . The approximately 103,000-euro sports car is powered by an LT5 engine with an output of 765 hp and a torque of 969 Nm.  The C7 ZR1 was upgraded with carbon add-on parts, the rear wings and air inlets Optical, with the optional ZTK performance package of the output is increased by 60%. The sale began in December 2017, the first vehicles are to be delivered in the spring of 2018 in the US. The vehicle with the chassis number 001 was on January 19, 2018 from the auction house Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale auctioned for a good cause. The proceeds were $ 925,000.
