History
In the summer of 1987 Chevrolet introduced the models Beretta and Corsica as the successor to the Chevrolet Citation .The Corsica based as well as the two-door coupe Chevrolet Beretta on the L-platform of General Motors . The Corsica was a four-doorhatchback and sedan with a slight wedge-shaped silhouette, initially available in a single version and powered by a two-liter four-cylinder or a 2.8-liter V6.1989 appeared as an additional model of the Corsica LTZ with a standard V6 engine and a sports suspension.
In 1990, the performance of the four-cylinder in the base model increased from 91 to 96 hp, the V6 from 127 to 137 hp. In addition to the four-door sedan came a five-door hatchback variant with a large tailgate in the program, which, however, only moderately sold and was canceled in 1992.
In 1991, the previous 2.0-liter unit was replaced by a 2.2-liter inline four-cylinder with unchanged 96 hp, the 2.8-liter by a 3.1-liter V6. A driver airbag supplemented the standard equipment. The Corsica LTZ accounted for without replacement. The base model was renamed Corsica LT.
In 1992, the performance of the four-cylinder increased thanks to multi-point injection to 112 hp.
Until the end of production in the summer of 1996, only minimal changes were made. From the Corsica Chevrolet produced in about ten years, a total of about 1.64 million copies, including 42,000 five-door.
