The C6 presented at the Paris Salon of October 1928,and is the first six-cylinder manufactured by Citroën .

History

The C6 is very close to the C4 , but with two more cylinders. Indeed, the C6 is a more powerful C4 and more luxurious, the brand wishing to reach a more affluent clientele. Aesthetically, they are therefore very close apart from the length of the hood, the tank at the rear and the many original accessories on the C6 offered as an option on the C4.

The C6 existed in eleven different bodies (five open and six closed body). Approximately 11,000 copies of this model were manufactured between October 1928 and May 1929.

The C6 becomes C6E with a trunk on all closed cases and the roadster and all models now have bumpers . The C6E is more distinguished from the C4 by widening from 1.32  m to 1.39  m , which makes it more imposing. In addition, this expansion allows it to better fight against the competition of the Renault Vivasix . 4,500 copies of this transition model were built between May and September 1929.Implementing the same technical solutions as the contemporary C4 , it aimed at silence and flexibility. The C6 is given for 105  km / h .

At the 1929 show , the C6E becomes C6F . The track is widened again and raised to 1.42 m.A special C6 was offered in 1930 to Pope Pius XI by the Italian subsidiary of Citroën. Built on a C6F chassis, it was bodied in "coupe de ville".

From February 1931 is proposed the CGL (Citroen Grand Luxe) which is a C6F with a specific engine a little more powerful and a very luxurious finish. In October 1931, the C6G received the famous "floating engine" (the acronym for the "Citroën swan"): the C6 was then available in two versions, the C6G with fixed engine and the C6G MFP with the floating engine. It was from Chrysler's design offices that André Citroën had acquired the  Floating Power  license  . In fact the process had been developed following the the oretical studies on vibrations made by two French technicians, Pierre Lemaire and Paul d'Aubarède.

The C6G have been dressed by many bodybuilders such as SICAL, VanVooren, Chapron , Letourneur and Marchand , Labourdette , Busson .Seven C6F abbreviates equipped with the Kégresse-Hinstin system constitute the "China" group from April 1931 to March 1932.

It is with the company C6F oils Yacco began his endurance records in 1931. The vehicle, specially shaped and called Rosalie  rotates continuously from 22 October to November 1931 beating 14 international records or 25,000 km traveled at 108  km / h average. Other records were reiterated in 1932 with a C6G. Autonomy tests are carried out with the same model to compare the distance difference traveled with 5  liters of Natioline and 5  liters of conventional petrol . The autonomy allowed by Natiolineis higher with 39  km traveled compared to 34  km for regular gasolin .

The C6 did not have the expected success and the 1932 show will announce the replacements of the C4 and C6 under the names 8 , 10 and 15 .
