The Citroën Xsara WRC is a vehicle that participated in the World Rally Championship from 2002 to 2007 and most of the 2009 season

History

From 2002 to 2006, the Xsara WRC was used by the Citroën Total World Rally Team for rallies. For Citroën first Sébastien Loeb drove this vehicle. After Loeb was injured, drove in the 2006 season Colin McRae the Xsara. Kronos Racing used this vehicle from 2006 to 2007; In 2009, the privateer Petter Solberg drove the car again. The Citroën Xsara WRC won a total of 32 rallies and became rally car of the year from 2003 to 2005.

In 1999, the predecessor of the Xsara WRC, the Citroën Xsara Kit Car, won the Rally Catalonia and the Rally Corsica . This vehicle was considered best in its class and the late Philippe Bugalski was seventh. He also won the Kit Car F2 class.

When in 2001 the kit car category disappeared, which was now replaced by the Super 1600 and the Super 2000, Citroën took part in the category World Rally Car with the Citroën Xsara WRC. Sébastien Loeb won the Monte Carlo Rally but was punished for illegally changing tires. However, he won the Rally Germany .

In 2003, the Xsara became more competitive, but at the Rally Great Britain suffered Richard Burns a power failure and retired. Sébastien Loeb also made some mistakes and lost the championship by one point.

The Citroën but won the Manufacturers title and in 2004 Sébastien Loeb won the championship. Loeb scored 28 rally victories by car, three consecutive driver championships from 2004 to 2006, and Citroën won three consecutive championship titles in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

In 2007, the Xsara was replaced by the newer Citroën C4 WRC and the Xsara WRC was used only by private individuals. 2003 World Champion Petter Solberg drove the Xsara for most of the 2009 season in his Petter Solberg World Rally Team.
