The Nissan Silvia first generation type CSP311 is a sports coupe from the 1960s, that was produced and sold by Nissan Motor from 1965 to 1968,

History

The first generation was the Datsun Fairlady, and the second and subsequent generations were specialty cars based on the Sunny. The base Sunny was changed to FF drive system in the middle of the model, but Silvia consistently adopted FR layout until the end of production.

After being exhibited as the "Datsun Coupe 1500" at the 11th Tokyo Motor Show in 1964 This introductory model was a 2 door 2 seat hand-built coupe based on the Fairlady platform , it went on sale in April 1965  It was built by mounting an R-type 1,600 cc OHV engine with an SU twin cab on a Datsun Fairlady (SP310 type) chassis and mounting a coupe body first designed by Kazuo Kimura and Fumio Yoshida both contributed to the first Silvia project This first-generation Silvia was manufactured at Tonouchi Manufacturing (now Tonox Co., Ltd.).. The design by Kazuo Kimura, who was in the Nissan design room at the time, was a German designer, Albrecht Graf von Goertz . It was an ambitious product, such as a body panel with as few seams as possible, but its ride that did not match its beautiful looks, and the very high price of 1.2 million yen was twice the price of the Sunny it was built on at the time.  and was not commercially successful with only 554 units built, and therefore, in June 1968 production stopped.

The front disc brake, which was the first to be used in the company's model, and the 4-speed fully synchronized transmission the  distribution of weight was 55% to front axle, and 45% at rear axle. The CSP311 was powered by the 96 hp 1.6 L Nissan R series engine. The engine was equipped with twin SU carburettors. In 1965 two cars were sent to the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Traffic Riot Police as Japan's first sports car-type highway patrol cars. was deployed. These two were special specifications equipped with a larger 1.8L engine. Around 50 examples were exported to other countries including Australia.
