History

The Daihatsu K3 engine is a derivative of the SZ type, a gasoline engine for Toyota that Daihatsu was in charge of development and production.

Engine Timeline

Previous HC type (1988) - K3 type (2000) - after 1NR type (2009) - WA type (2021, 1.2L, inline 3 cylinder)

Using a cast iron block Water- cooled in -line 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve. The displacement is only 1.3 L in the line-up., and is a sibling machine that shares the crankshaft with the same 1.3 L 2SZ-FE, but the cylinder head and cylinder block are separate. It is designed not only for horizontal installation on the front like the SZ type, but also for vertical installation on the front and installation on cab-over type vehicles according to the line-up of Daihatsu vehicles. there are the cast iron cylinder blocks of the SZ series, including the K3 type, have a bore pitch of 78 mm and a closed deck structure. The size and weight have been reduced by reducing the thickness near the bore to 3 mm.

Variations

As of February 2021, only the K3-DE, which is exclusively for export to Japan, is locally manufactured in Indonesia (Astra Daihatsu Motor).Based on K3-VE, there is 3SZ-VE (KSZ-VE for overseas market) with displacement increased to 1.5L, and KJ-VET with displacement reduced to 1.0L based on K3-VET.
