The Dodge Mirada was a sports luxury coupe offered by the US automaker Dodge from 1979 to 1983.

History

The Mirada based on the rear-wheel drive platform of the J-Chrysler Group and was closely related to the Chrysler Cordoba second generation and the Chrysler Imperial for the model years 1981 to 1983. The Mirada was offered in the first year as a base model and Mirada S with sportier equipment, this could order a CMX package with brushed aluminium finish interior with power windows a power sunroof, or a glass T-top. A special feature of the time was the optionally available so-called Convertible Roof, a vinyl roof cover in the look of a stretched convertible top, the front end was made from a flexible plastic now more common for late 70s and into the 1980s.

Engines for the Mirada were the 3.7 -litre straight-six,max speed: 90 mph, 145 km/h power-weight ratio: 37.5 lb/hp (51 lb/kW) 17 kg/hp (23.1 kg/kW) speed in direct drive at 1,000 rpm: 25.5 mph, 41 km/h consumption: 20.5 m/imp gal, 17 m/US gal, 13.8 Ix 100 km. a 5.2 -litre V8 max speed: 106 mph, 170 km/h; power-weight ratio: 28.8 lb/hp (39.2 lb/kW), 13 kg/hp (17.8 kg/kW); speed in direct drive at 1,000 rpm: 29.3 mph, 47.2 km/h; consumption: rn/imp gal, 15 m/US gal, 15.7 Ix 100 km .5.2 -litre 4-barrel carburettor.max speed: 110 mph, 177 km/h; power-weight ratio: 22.3 lb/hp (30.3 lb/kW), 10.1 kg/hp (13.7 kg/kW); speed in direct drive at 1,000 rpm: 31 mph, 49.7 km/h consumption; 19.2 m/imp gal, 16 m/US gal, 14.7 Ix 100 km... And a 5.9 -litre V8 with quadruple carburettor available max speed: 115 mph, 185 km/h; power-weight ratio: 19.6 lb/hp, (26.6 lb/kW), 8.8 kg/hp (121 kg/kW); speed in direct drive at 1,000 rpm: 28.7 mph, 46.2 km/h; consumption: 16.8 m/imp gal, 14 m/US gal, 16.8 Ix 100 km.

All engines were basically combined with the Torque Flite three-speed automatic transmission. Suspension utilized transverse torsion bars in the front and leaf springs with a sway bar in the rear sports option with more heavy-duty shock absorbers, anti-sway bars in the front and rear.

Dodge Mirada car history

In the model year 1981, the Convertible Roof was included with the CMX package, the equipment level S was deleted and the 5.9-liter dropped. In 1982 and 1983, the Mirada received only minor changes, mainly concerning the colours available.

In the summer of 1983, the Mirada model ended. In total, just under 53,000 copies of the coupe were built.

OPTIONAL 2.710 axle ratio; electronic air-conditioning; trip computer; longlife battery; heavy-duty cooling; rear window defroster with 65 A alternator; iodine headlamps; electric door locks; electric windows; heavy-duty suspension; sunshine roof; T-bar roof; Sport handling equipment; CMX equipment.
