The Dodge Shadow was produced by the US automaker Dodge from 1986 to 1994 low-power front-wheel drive sedan. The Shadow was based on the P platform of the Chrysler Corporation (a shortened version of the K platform) and was thus a sister model of the Plymouth Sundance, of which he differed only by minimal details. In Europe, the three-door version of the Shadow was offered for some years under the name Chrysler ES.
History
In early summer 1986, Dodge unveiled the Shadow as a new, compact, mid-size four-door, tailgate model; a three-door followed in the course of the year. The offer initially only a single equipment variant, powered by a 2.2-liter four-cylinder with or without turbocharger, each with five-speed or three-speed automatic transmission available. A sporty oriented ES package was available for the three-door car at an additional cost and included aluminium rims and wide tires.
In 1988, the ES package was expanded to include a rear spoiler, a front bumper with integrated fog lights and decorative stripes.
In 1989, all Shadow models received a new grille in the typical Dodge design with two intersecting struts. The previous turbo engine was replaced by a 2.5-liter turbo with 145 hp, in addition to the program came a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 101 hp. The chassis of the ES with turbo engine was designed a little firmer.
Only for the 1990 model year, the Shadow ES was also available with a 177 hp version of the 2.2-liter turbocharged engine.
From 1991, the Shadow program included a stripped-down basic version called Shadow America, the regular Shadow model as well as its own model variant promoted Shadow ES. New to the program was a convertible version, which was only available with the 2.5-liter or its turbocharged variant.
As of model year 1992, a three-Liter V6 was available for the Shadow ES at an additional cost.
In 1993, the Shadow America accounted for as well as the turbo engine. As a new extra, an ABS was added.
For model year 1994, the Cabriolet was no longer available.
From the Shadow a total of 670,000 copies were built (of which 29,500 convertibles).
