The Ferrari 365 GTC4 is a sports coupe car from the 1970s produced by the Italian car manufacturer Ferrari between 1971 and 1973.

History

The 365 GTC4 was first presented at the 1971 Geneva motor show which, like the 365 GTB4, showed particularly modern lines, characterized by some innovative stylistic details, among such as the front bumper integrated into the nose itself. The 365 GTC4 replaced the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 a less exaggerated variant of the Daytona. in the car manufacturer 's price list.

However, this car represents a different form from the high-end touring cars that preceded it (those distinguished by the initials 365 ) as well as from those that will follow it in the 1970s : around the traditional 12-cylinder 4390 cc housed on a chassis with a wheelbase reduced to 2500 mm, Pininfarina created a two-seater coupé, plus two makeshift rear seats, with a streamlined line evidently studied in the new wind tunnel of the Turin body shop , which went into operation precisely in those years.

From a stylistic point of view was the grille underlined by a thick ring that served as a bumper, placed at the top of the long and sloping nose, on which the eyelid headlights were located and, on the bonnet, two air intakes rectangular to cool the six  Weber 38 DCOE 59/60 carburettors.

Ferrari 365 GTC4 Technical details (1971-1973)

Similar to the Daytona, the surfaces of the roof, rear window and rear trunk blended into each other, before abruptly stopping at the rear of the car. Seen from the side, the GTC was striking for its sinuous profile which almost resembled a wave, and for the pointed shape of the rear glass which formed a perfect triangle with the pillar. The tail mirror, slightly in depression with respect to the trunk profile, was equipped with three-element circular light clusters, which then became customary on various Ferrari cars of the years to come such as, for example, the 365 GT4 BB coupé features 2 doors; 2 + 2 seats, separate front seats,reclining backrests with built-in headrests; back seat folding down to luggage table, air-conditioning, electrically-controlled windows, electrically-heated rear window.

Even the engine, the well-known 4390 cm³ V12, was the same one mounted on the Daytona, but with some variations: the lubrication was of the conventional wet sump type and the Weber carburettors, to allow the lowering of the bonnet line, were mounted laterally.

Power, due to the lower compression ratio, was 340 HP (320 on the US version equipped with anti- pollution devices). The performance of this car was very respectable, the maximum speed was in fact 260 km/h with a weight/power ratio of 4.3 kg/hp. With 5, fully synchronized gearbox and ratios: 1st 2.494, 2nd 1.672, 3rd 1.244, 4th 1, 5th 0.802, rev 2.222 and limited slip differential rear.

PERFORMANCE
max power (DIN): 340 hp at 6,800 rpm
max torque (SAE): 312 1b ft. 43 kg m at 4,600 rpm;
max engine rpm: 7,000; 77.4 hp/l
power-weight ratio: 9.5 lb/hp, 4.3 kg/hp
fuel consumption: 14.5 m/ imp gal, 12.1 m/ US gal, 19.5 1 x 100 km.
max speeds: (I) 52 mph, 84 km/h; (II) 78 mph, 126 km/h; (III) 105 mph, 169 km/h; (IV) 130 mph,
210 km/h; (V) 163 mph, 262 km/h

Only 508 365 GTC4s were produced between 1971 and 1973.
