The Fiat 24-40 HP is a early car built by Fiat from 1906 to 1907 .
History
The "24/40 HP" is essentially the evolution of the previous " 24-32 HP " model . Built in three successive series starting from 1905 and maintains the same chassis and mechanical characteristics, including the engine at 4 cylinders of 7363 cm³ of the third series.
The main innovations consisted in the general lightening of the structures, in the increase in power, in the adoption of manually operated decompression valves to facilitate the start of the engine and in the complex water brake cooling system, in order to alleviate the problems overheating of the previous model. The 40 HP that the engine delivers at 1200 rpm, allow the car to reach a top speed of 85 km / h .
The chassis of the "24/40 HP" was built in 557 in total in the establishment of Corso Dante in Turin and offered as standard with landaulet bodywork . Available with three different chassis, it was fitted in multiple versions of the sedan, torpedo, coupé de ville and others, from the major bodybuilders of the time, such as the Locati & Torretta and Alessio from Turin or the Castagna and Sala Milanese.
A "Corsa" version was also derived with a short wheelbase and essential superstructures with which, in 1906, Émile Mathis won the Golden Plate of the Herkomer Cup, while Vincenzo Lancia won the Coppa d'Oro in Milan .
