Fom Early 1959, the 2100 first appeared from Fiat of Italy. At first along side the Fiat 1500, 1800 and later replaced by the 2300 .

History

Built with a self-supporting body in the then modern trapezoidal form as a four-door notchback sedan and a five-door station wagon ( Familiare ).

The bodywork was also used with six-cylinder engine for the Fiat 1800 and the Fiat 2300 , as well as with the four-cylinder engine of the Fiat 1500 for the Fiat 1500L.

The 2100 had a six-cylinder inline engine with 2054 cc displacement and a power of 60 kW, a four-speed gearbox with steering wheel circuit and driven rear wheels. Its maximum speed was 145 to 150 km / h, depending on the version.

At the end of 1959 the Special Bodywork Section of FIAT created the Speciale version. The luxurious version of the series was the 2100 Special . It had the same engine and wheelbase, but slightly larger outside dimensions, a different grille and better features.  , based on the 2100, characterized by increased wheelbase and length, a different (and more elaborate) front end, better finished interiors and other minor differences. The Francis Lombardi body shop , on the other hand, launched the extended wheelbase version of the sedan, popular as a taxi (7-seater configuration) or as a representative car (both for the Italian authorities and for the Vatican ) .

In 1960 the range was enriched with the 2100 Saxomat variant (sedan or family ), equipped with an automatic clutch : the gearbox remained manual with a lever on the steering wheel, but the clutch pedal was missing .

In the autumn of 1961, production was discontinued. This was succeeded by the Fiat 2300 .
