The Ford B-MAX is a car model of the car manufacturer Ford . The five-seater  was first presented as a study at the Geneva Motor Show 2011.

History

It is based on the Ford Fiesta and is produced at Ford Romania (formerly Automobile Craiova ) in Romania .  For the development of the Italian design studio and Coachbuilder was Vercarmodel Saro was responsible. In a EuroNCAP crash test in the summer of 2012, the B-Max scored five stars and 92% for occupant protection.

The concept car did not have door handles, but opened with the help of sensors. In addition, it had a large glass panoramic roof, a trapezoidal chrome grill, far rear-dragged headlights and rolled on 18-inch alloy wheels. It was compared to the Fiesta both in height and in the length  grew by eleven centimeters. The dashboard was ajar against the Fiesta. The instrument cluster was illuminated in light blue and in the center console, a six-inch touchscreen display was integrated.  In addition, the car has an electronic parking brake disposal.  The rear seats were increased arranged around eleven centimeters, allowing easier access and a better view. In folded rear seat and front passenger seat tilted back, the concept car provided a flat loading area with 2.35 meters in length.

Ford B-MAX (2012-2017)

The study was engineered with a new 1.0-liter "EcoBoost" three-cylinder spark ignition engine, which will be available in a range of power ratings and up to 97 kW (132 hp). The six-speed Powershift dual-clutch transmission made it possible to change gears without interrupting power, and the study also had a start-stop system . An optimized crankshaft, a new cooling system and a specially designed exhaust manifold increased the efficiency of the engine. Through direct injection, turbocharging and variable valve timing ( Ti-VCT ), the fuel consumption was about 4.5 liters of super gasoline per 100 km, the CO 2 emission was less than 100 grams per kilometer.

The vehicle was designed by Ford's chief designer Martin Smith in the so-called "Kinetic Design" and has - like the studies Ford Iosis and Ford Iosis-MAX  - no visible B-pillar . The two rear "panoramic sliding doors" increase the entrance width to 1.50 meters and thus enable a more comfortable entry and exit and easier loading of large items such as sports equipment. In contrast to the concept car, the production model has door handles on the front and rear doors. In order to achieve safety comparable to conventional doors, the sliding doors have integrated B-pillars made of high-strength boron steel, which, together with special locks, protect against side impacts. The upper door guide rail was led under the tail lamp drawn laterally to the front, in order to produce no visually disturbing influence on the sideline.

The Ford B-MAX has extensive safety features, anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution , traction control (ESP) with traction control , a tire pressure monitoring system and seven airbags are standard on all vehicles. These are front and side air bags for driver and front passenger, a knee airbag for the driver and head and shoulder airbags front and rear. The car is available on request with Active City Stop . This is a system that measures the distance and the differential speed to the vehicle ahead 100 times per second at a speed of less than 30 km / h using an infrared lidar sensor mounted in front of the rearview mirror . From this, the system calculates what delay is necessary in an emergency to avoid a rear-end collision. Should the vehicle in front slow down, the system automatically initiates the braking process if the driver should not react. In addition, a Hill Start Assist is available to assist in safely starting up hills by delaying vehicle rollback.

The car is available for market launch in four trim levels. The base model is called Ambiente and has an electro-mechanical power steering, electric windows front and rear and electrically adjustable exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals.

The Trend features the exterior mirrors are additionally heated, the door handles painted in body color, and standard leather steering wheel, on-board computer, a lighted glove box and additional reading lights front available.

The Titanium also features 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, chrome trim trim beneath the side windows, a high-gloss chrome-framed grille, LED daytime running lights, air conditioning, leather gear knob, powerswitch for unlocking the vehicle, Cruise control and a driver's seat with adjustable lumbar support. In addition, it has in the interior of textile surfaces in pinstripe look, the controls and the center console are held in high-gloss black, which is to remember the design of smartphones .

The top model Individual also has chrome bars in the grille, a roof rail, leather upholstery with heated front seats, dark tinted rear window and side windows from the second row of seats.

The vehicle is based on the platform of the Ford Fiesta '09 .As gasoline engine is the Ford B-MAX with a 1.0-liter EcoBoost -Dreizylinder turbo engine with 74 kW (100 hp) or 88 kW (120 hp) or a 1.4-liter Duratec engine with 66 kW (90 hp) available. In addition, there is a 1.6-liter gasoline engine that delivers 77 kW (105 hp). As diesel engines, a 1.5-liter Duratorq engine with 55 kW (75 hp) or a 1.6-liter Duratorq engine with 71 kW (95 hp) are available  , the 1, 5-liter Duratorq engine is first available in Europe.  The vehicles with EcoBoost engines come standard with a start-stop systemand an alternator energy recovery system (SRC) that boosts the vehicle battery when braking. This system is also standard on vehicles with diesel engines.  Depending on the year of manufacture engines meet the emissions standard Euro 5 or Euro. 6
