The Ford Kuga is a SUV type car model of the car manufacturer Ford . which  was first built in 2008.

History

First debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show as a near-series study. In spring 2008, the production model was presented at the Geneva Motor Show . The Kinetic design is based on the 2006 Ford Iosis X concept car. This Ford Focus / C-MAX based car was manufactured from early 2008 to fall 2012 at the Saarland Ford plant in Saarlouis The car recived 5 stars in the Euro NCAP - crash test .

Launched in May 2008, the Kuga was powered exclusively by the 2.0-liter common-rail Duratorq TDCi turbo diesel from its co-operation with Peugeot , which has been on the Ford C-MAX and Ford since 2003. Models as well as in the Volvo S40 / V50 was used. This has an output of 100 kW (136 hp) at 4000 rpm and a torque of 320 Nm (with overboost 340 Nm) at 2000 rpm.

The 1573 kg heavy car has a standard six-speed gearbox and optional front or four-wheel drive (4 × 4 with electronically controlled power distribution, 40 kg extra weight). The four-wheel variant costs 2000 € surcharge. The average consumption (combined) is according to factory specification at 6.1 liters of diesel per 100 km (front-wheel drive, version 2 × 4) and at 6.4 liters (4 × 4 four-wheel drive). The associated CO 2 emissions are 159-169 g / km (Euro 4 with particle filter). The maximum speed of the 2 × 4 is 182 km / h (180 km / h, four-wheel drive 4 × 4); the acceleration 0-100 km / h takes place in 10.6 seconds (4 × 4, 10.7 seconds).

Since late 2008, a 2.5-liter Duratec engine for the Kuga was also available. This engine is a throttled version of Volvo's five-cylinder turbocharged engine , which was also used in the Ford Focus, S-MAX and Mondeo models. It delivers 147 kW (200 hp) at 6500 rpm in the Kuga and has a torque of 320 Nm at 1600 rpm. Optionally, a five-speed automatic transmission was available with this engine. The maximum speed is according to factory specification 210 km / h with an acceleration of 0-100 km / h in 8.2 s.

In March 2010, the 2.0-liter TDCi engine with 100 kW was replaced by a 2.0-liter TDCi engine in two power levels: the smaller has 103 kW (140 hp), the larger 120 kW (163 hp ). Both engines were also available with the new Powershift dual-clutch transmission. The gasoline engine remained unchanged. Since the beginning of 2011, the gasoline engine has also met the Euro 5 emissions standard.

In October 2012, the last copies of the first Kuga generation ran off the line. The second generation appeared in the spring of 2013 on the basis of the Ford Focus '11 and is as a world car largely identical to the already since mid-2012 on the US market offered Ford Escape . The third generation was released in 2019.
