The Honda Integra Type R is a 2 + 2-seater sport coupe with front-wheel drive by Honda Built from 1998 to 2006.

History

It was originally intended only for Japan and the US market, and belongs to the third generation of Integra models.. It was powered by a 1.8-liter naturally-aspirated engine with the Honda-developed VTEC valve control and a peak output of 140 kW (190 hp) ( power6.32 kg / hp, 106 hp) and 178 Nm of torque at 7300 rpm . The force is a 5-speed manual transmission and a 25-percent,Torsen - locking differentialdirected to the front wheels. This accelerates the 1200 kg empty weight relatively light sports coupe in 6.7 seconds to 100 km / h and reaches a top speed of 234 km / h. The average fuel consumption was given at around 8.8 l per 100 km.

Honda Integra Type R (1998-2006)

The Type R had an aerodynamic package out front and rear spoiler, with which the lift was reduced by about 30%. In addition to a sportier suspension tuning with progressive springs on the rear axle and thicker stabilizers on the front and rear axles, he also had special rubber bushings in the front lower wishbones, which helped to stabilize the braking and steering behavior of the front wheels to more after-track in these driving conditions. Furthermore, the body was reinforced at various critical points for the rigidity such as the wheel arches, the rear wheel arches and the roof between the C-pillars by additional sheets. By weight reduction measures the thus increased mass was counteracted. The span of the rear wheel bearings has been increased to give the rear axle more stability against unwanted camber changes.

Honda Integra Type R specifications (1998-2006)

In Japan, the Integra Type R was offered in several variants, with the model year "98spec" the biggest technical changes compared to the first published "96spec" were introduced in later model maintenance measures, the changes were more cosmetic. The two model versions mentioned differed by various moderate technical changes (eg 16 "rims with bolt circle 5 × 114.3 at 98spec, 15" rims with bolt circle 4 × 114.3 at 96spec, different gear ratio, other exhaust manifold, larger Intake manifold with polished inlet and outlet channels).

Honda Integra Type R Technical details (1998-2006)

The biggest differences between the Japanese models and the European model are a different front end and a different, but similar engine (B18C with 147 kW / 200 hp) with only about half the catalyst, another manifold with 65mm outlet (spec.96 / 4- 2-1 Same shape as EU model but 65mm instead of 40mm outlet, spec.98 / 4-1 is a stainless steel manifold). The empty weight of the 98spec is given as 1080 kg.

Although the Japanese model of the Integra was offered from the 98 spec model with larger 16 "alloy wheels and 215/45 ZR16 tires, the new bolt circle 5x114,3 and the associated larger brake system were adopted for the European model, but the original rims - and tire size (15 ", 195/55 R15) maintained. Similarly, the built-in 1998 98spec in Japan 4-1 stainless steel manifold was not adopted in the model for the European market, the gear ratio with the longer 4th and 5th gear and shorter axle ratio, however, already. This exhaust manifold helped the Japanese model to a different torque curve with the maximum at a lower speed (186 Nm at 6200 rpm instead of 178 Nm at 7300 rpm), matching the now lower engine speed after switching from 3rd to 4th gear.

The next Integra generation marketed in Japan, Australia, Hong Kong and North America ( Acura RSX in the US, Canada and Hong Kong ) was discontinued in Central Europe. There were also different equipped models of the third Integra generation. In North America there were the versions LS and GS with engine outputs of 140 hp, as well as the sportier version GS-R with 170 hp. In these versions, the Integra was also to get as a 4-door sedan, a 4-door Type-R, however, there was only in the Japanese market (model name DB8). In North America, the Integra was sold under the brand name 'Acura'.
