The Jeep Honcho was an equipment package for the big Jeep - pick-up J-series and was offered 1976 to 1983. 

By early 1976 Jeep introduced a Sportier Honcho pickup Honcho means "boss.".The Honcho Package listed for $699 and required purchase of the power front disc brakes power steering option with Sport steering wheel was installed with "Honcho' lettering was applied to the door panels Goodyear Tracker AT 10 x 15 tubeless 4-ply polyester tires were fitted on slot style 15 x 8-inch steel wheels. This brought the price of a Honcho Pickup to $5680 a large increase over standard truck.

The Honcho had a body side treatment of gold with accents of black and white. It consisted of stripes and emblems and sometimes there was also a standard Levi's interior or a roll bar.   The fender strips were also gold and white and the tailgate striping was in a gold finish along with Its grille also had black accents.

Jeep honcho Technical details specifications (1976-1983)

The Jeep Honcho was one of several equipment packages offered for the J-Series mid-to-late 1970s pick-ups, such as the Golden Eagle and the 10-4in which there was a radio to the decorative stripes. The honcho package was only available for the sporty pickups with a short cargo area. From 1980 to 1982, only 1264 copies of this version were produced. The empty weight is given as 1231 kg. The Honcho interior was finished in a blue Levi's The Honcho interior consisted of a bench seat with blue Levi's style fabric and door panels with a Levis-inserts. Body colour was alpine white. firecracker red, brilliant blue, black, nautical blue and medium blue.

Trivia 

  • Contrary to popular belief, Honcho was not the name of the big jeep pickups after AMC took over Kaiser-Jeep's company in 1963 . These were called Jeep Gladiator for a few more years and were then simply known as "J Series Pickups".
  • A yellow Jeep honcho with blue trim was featured in the film Twister (1996).
