History

The Nash 400 was a series of six-cylinder cars of Nash Motors Company in Kenosha . It was made only in the model year 1936 and lined up between the smaller LaFayette models and the larger Ambassador models.

The model 3640, which was debuted on May 20, 1935, had a chassis with a 2,972 mm wheelbase. This had a side-drive (sv) six-cylinder inline engine with a displacement of 3,848 cc (bore stroke = 85.7 mm 111.1 mm) that produced 90 bhp (66 kW) at 3,400 rpm. The drive and brake components were the same as the previous Nash models (single disc dry clutch, 3-speed mid-gear, rear-wheel drive, hydraulic brakes on all four wheels). Various open and closed structures with 3 to 6 seats were available.

Nash 400 1936 engine history

This model was the first Nash, that the intake manifold was poured into the engine block. Also as the first Nash of 400 had a one-piece, rear-hinged hood (alligator hood). His headlights no longer sat on the sides of the radiator grille, but on the front fenders. The grille was made of pressed steel with vertical bars. The car had a hatchback without boot lid.

The 400 DeLuxe, model 3640A was introduced on October 15, 1935. Technically, this was the 400, but had a grille with chrome, vertical rods and a split bonnet, which was hinged in the middle, and better features. In 1937, both models were replaced by the Nash LaFayette 400 .
