The Oldsmobile Super 88 was a car that was built from 1951 to 1964 by Oldsmobile, a brand of General Motors. From 1951 to 1960, the Super 88 formed the middle model of the brand and represented a combination of the body of the model 88 and the larger engines of the model 98. If 88 and 98 had the same engines, the Super 88 took over the new styling of the 98th while the 88 still had the bodywork of the previous year.
For 1951, the Super 88 arrived on a new 120-inch wheelbase and with revised styling. 1951 Super 88 originated with a body in the new, flatter style of the model 98, but the length of the model 88. Was the 88 still offered in 1950 with seven different bodies, The grille was formed by simple bars, side decoration was minimal, and taillights
were built into little upright fins on the rear fenders. So took over the Super 88 in the model year 1951 this range with the exception of the station wagon and was also even better equipped. The 88, however, was offered this year only as 2- and 4-door sedan. Accordingly, the Super 88 also sold six times as much as the 88 this year. The 4977-cc engine, which was common to all Oldsmobile models, produced 135 bhp (99 kW) at 3,600 rpm. The same basic styling continued on the nearly unchanged '52s .
In 1952, the engine output increased to 160 bhp (118 kW), 1953 to 165 bhp (121 kW). more power came via a higher-lift cam and new "Quadri-Jet" four-barrel carburettor,
expanding options improving Hydra-Matic, power steering for '52, The coupe with B-pillars had dropped out in 1953, but the Super 88 with its four models was still the volume model series from Oldsmobile. The bodies changed only slightly, only the small round taillights stood out more and more up out of the fenders and thus led gradually to the era of the tail fins air conditioning and power brakes for '53.
