The Pontiac Executive was a mid -range model built by American automaker Pontiac, which was offered from 1967 to 1970.

1966 had the predecessor Star Chief already the nickname Executive, so in 1967 this name became the actual model’s name. Between the simpler equipped Catalina and the luxurious Bonneville, the executive took the middle spot in the range of "full-size" automobiles. The cars showed the design typical for the late 1960s at Pontiac with a wide grille with painted centre bar and superimposed twin headlights. The fashionable "Coke-Bottle-Design" (first tested in the Chevrolet Corvair 1965) manifested itself in a hip type kink over the rear wheel cutouts.

With the larger wheelbase, a 4-door sedan and two hardtop versions with 2 or 4 doors were available. The 5-door station wagon with six or nine seats had, like all Pontiac station wagons at this time, a 3 "smaller wheelbase and was nicknamed Safari. The engine was powered by a V8 engine with 6555 cc of displacement, which at 4600 rpm had an output of 265 bhp (195 kW).

PERFORMANCE: 400 cu in

  • max power (SAE): 290 hp at 4,600 rpm
  • max torque (SAE): 428 1b ft,59.1 kg m at 2,500 rpm
  • max engine rpm: 4,600
  • specific power: 44.2 hp/l
  • Fuel consumption: 15.3 m/imp gal, 12.8 mlUS gal, 18.4 1 x 100 km
  • Max speed:111 mph, 178.7 km/
  • max speeds: 59 mph, 95 km/h in 1st gear; 100 mph, 161 km/h in 2nd gear; 111 mph, 178.7 km/h in 3rd gear; power-weight ratio: 14.5 lb/hp, 6.6 kg/hp;
  • speed in direct drive at 1,000 rpm: 32.1 mph,51.7 km/h.

1968 changed the front view of the car clearly: Instead of the superimposed double headlights, there was now a little further inwardly offset a swing rear gate on the station wagon Safari. Price New in USA $ 3,653. Technical changes were not recorded this year, but now were on request also more powerful engines to choose:

  • 6555 cc capacity of 330 hp (243 kW) at 4800 rpm
  • 6555 cc capacity of 340 hp (250 kW) at 4800 rpm
  • 6555 cc capacity of 350 hp (257 kW) at 5000 rpm
  • 6555 cc with 360 hp (265 kW) at 5100 rpm
  • 6555 cc displacement with 366 bhp (269 kW) at 5400 rpm
  • 7014 cc displacement with 375 bhp (276 kW) at 4800 rpm
  • 7014 cc displacement with 390 bhp (287 kW) at 5200 rpm

During those two years, 68,088 long-wheelbase limousines and coupes and 23,534 short wheelbase coupes were built.

There were no major changes in the appearance of the vehicles in 1969, but the wheelbases were increased by 1 "each, while the base V8 engine now produced 290 bhp (213 kW) at the same displacement.

1970 was again a major facelift. The cars now had double headlights arranged side by side in rectangular boxes, and the radiator grille consisted of two vertically arranged grid surfaces, which together with the wide, chrome-plated centre bar formed a bulky, protruding nose. The wide taillights (coupe and sedans) were offset in the rear bumper. Technically, there were no changes this year.

In 1969 and 1970, 47,781 long-wheelbase limousines and coupés and 23,706 short-wheelbase coupes were built. The executive station wagons were without successors; the sedans and coupes were from 1971 Catalina Brougham.
