The Pontiac Firefly was offered in Canada and the Middle East car model of the US manufacturer Pontiac .The Firefly was a variant of the Suzuki Swift first and Second generation .
History
The Firefly was introduced in late 1984 in Canada as the successor to the Pontiac Acadian and sold until 1991; from 1994 to 2000 there was a successor of the same name. The sister models of the Firefly were the Chevrolet Sprint , the Geo Metro and the Chevrolet Metro . In 1989 and 1995 comprehensive model maintenance took place .
Initially, the Firefly was exclusively manufactured by Suzuki in Japan. From 1990, production began at the Canadian plant of CAMI, a joint venture of General Motors and Suzuki. Until 1994, only a single engine was available, a one-liter three-cylinder, which there was from 1987 to 1991 in turbo version. In addition, in 1995, a 1.3-liter four-cylinder came into the program.
1991 to 1994, in addition to the hatchback model, a convertible and a four-door notchback sedan were offered; while the hatchback versions were produced by CAMI, the convertible and notch were Japanese-made.
In 2000, the Firefly was taken out of the Pontiac range ,but found in Canada only in 2005 with the Pontiac Wave as a successor.
