The G8 is a sports sedan of the former automaker Pontiac, which belonged to General Motors until 2010 . Following the bankruptcy of GM in 2009 and the restructuring of the model program, the Pontiac brand was abandoned at the end of 2010.
The G8 was largely identical to the same old model generation of the Holden Commodore and was therefore manufactured in Australia, but sold exclusively in North America.
The sporty car was introduced in early 2008 (in Canada 2009) as a four-door sedan and is a model of the upper middle class ( full-size car ). An originally also planned estate version was discarded again.
History
The G8 is based on the new Global Rear Wheel Drive (Zeta) platform from GM and therefore has rear-wheel drive. It is also available as G8 GT and G8 GXP . Base engine is a 3.6-liter V6 with 191 kW and a 5-speed automatic. The GT accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km / h) in just under 5 seconds thanks to the 269 kW 6-liter V8 engine with 6-speed automatic transmission. All models come standard with six airbags, traction control, ESP and 18-inch alloy wheels. Prices start at 26,910 US dollars for the basic model with V6 engine, at 29,310 US dollars for the GT version and at 37,610 US dollars for the G8 GXP.
In addition to the sedan, a two-seat pickup version based on the Holden Ute was introduced in March 2008 at the New York International Auto Show . The G8 ST (Sport Truck), which was scheduled for 2010, should be Pontiac's first pickup truck, and GM's first coupe utility in North America since the 1987 Chevrolet El Camino set .
