The next generation of Espace IV and Grand Espace, is manufactured directly by Renault in Sandouville and marketed for 12 years from 2002 to 2014. In return, Renault entrusted Matra with the construction of the Avantime .
The platform is shared with Laguna II and Vel Satis . The originality of this generation comes from the air conditioning unit that leaves the engine compartment to slip under the floor of the cabin, taking up the idea appeared on the Renault Scenic concept car in 1991. The model Grand Espace Initiale 3.5 V6 BVA, with 245 hp, reaching 225 km / h, makes it the second fastest minivan in the world (after the Opel Zafira 2.0 T OPC which reaches 231 km / h).

It was restyled in 2006 (phase 2) with retouching on  optics and interior finishing. Appearance of the 2.0 dCi 150 and 175 hp diesel engines.
Renault Espace IV Service Guide (2002-2014)

Presented in February 2006 and available in May / June. The exterior is distinguished from phase 1 only by a new grille, a new shield with chrome ring surrounding the fog lights, a new interior design of the optional rotating headlamps, a new mask of the rear lights (turn signals and reversing lights coupled then they were visually separated on ph1), and new 17 and 18-inch wheels.

Inside, there is a redesigned two-tone dashboard, a panoramic glass roof (optional) with maximum brightness on board, a latest-generation navigation system (option) with Bluetooth connectivity and a 7-inch LCD screen in the board board while he was in the empty pocket before and some buttons changed.

Second restyling (phase 3) at the 2010 Paris Motor Show (addition of LEDs and totally black mirrors, rear view camera).A third facelift (phase 4) took place in 2013. The front panel was modified to adopt the current Renault style. Gasoline engines (2.0T and V6) disappear from the catalog in France, Space becomes for the first time only available in diesel (in France).

Phase 4 

On the engine side, there is the 2.0 dCi engine, in 130, 150 hp (and 175 hp in automatic transmission only) but which, combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox, reduces its C emissions.O 2at 150 g / km (- 20 g) for a consumption of 5.7 l / 100. The same engine is also available with a 6-speed automatic transmission, rated at 6.4 L / 100 for C emissionsO 2 amounting to 169 g / km.
