The Suzuki F-type F8 engine is an 800cc gasoline engine exclusively for small-displacement vehicles manufactured by Suzuki.

History

Originally first developed in 1972 as an engine for the second-generation Jimny export model (LJ80 series), it was the company's first mass -produced 4-stroke engine for automobiles. With higher exhaust gas regulations by 1978, the in-line 4-cylinder 4-stroke engine F8A, one cylinder was subtracted from it to develop the in-line 3-cylinder. became widely installed by the 1980s.

The valve drive system was SOHC from 1994 onwards, they gradually shifted to the K-type engine. Inside the engine, for the cylinder head a dent was carved into the piston in a heart shape, and it had a unique structure that increased the combustion speed by vortexing the combustion gas.

The all-aluminium alloy K-type engine was the successor, and production ended in the early 2000s, except for the F8B. The SOHC turbo engine of the 3rd and 4th generation Alto is the same as that later installed in the new standard 5th generation Alto, Kei and Wagon R, but the details such as the fuel injection method and compression ratio have been changed.

The Suzuki F8 engine is the longest-lived genealogy of existing automobile engines manufactured by Japanese automobile manufacturers, and has been manufactured for more than half a century since its introduction in 1972. It continues to exist as an exclusive engine for emerging third world countries and still continues to be manufactured.
