History
Hampden Automobile & Launch Company made automobiles that were marketed as Hampden. James Frank Duryea, known to Duryea, WD Eaton and AM Green, founded the company in September 1900. The head office was in Springfield, Massachusetts. Duryea then moved to Stevens-Duryea. Homer R. Burton and RA McKee later took over the company and turned it into an automotive workshop.
The cars came as open body in the form of a runabout that could accommodate up to two people. Fitted with a two cylinder four-stroke engine. This was mounted under the seat and drove the rear axle. The special feature was that the engine could be started from the seat. The curb weight was given as 750lbs.Price with top came at $1200.
Overall, only a few vehicles were built and by 1901 ended production.
