Dearborn Automobile Company Inc. was an American kit type vehicle manufacturer from the 60s and 70s. The brand name was DAC Deserter

History 

Alex Dearborn founded the company in 1967. In the same year began production of automobiles. There was a collaboration with Auto Dynamics from the same town. Vehicle production ended in 1971. A total of about 1,250 vehicles emerged. 

The company was active in the area of ​​restoration for many years until 2012.

The first model was a VW buggy The Deserter. It was based on a chassis from the VW Beetle, which was shortened to 213 cm (84 inches). An open fiberglass body was mounted on inches) engineered and easily assembled by inexperienced builders. an 84-inch wheel-base, all-weather dune buggy featuring four-place seating. The kit includes all parts necessary to convert a VW into a roadable Deserter. Stock options include heater kits, wide wheels, and special Off-road equipment. The Hustler was a sports roadster is an extraordinarily attractive, sophisticated, convertible with weather tight top, heater, and roll-up windows.

The GS was based on a tubular frame from Autodynamics. It was driven by boxer engines from the Chevrolet Corsair, Porsche 911 or Porsche 912, which were mounted behind the seats in a mid-engine design.
