From April 1985, The SR was changed only slightly, it was now called the GT and was still only three-door available.  A rare "Sport" model was produced in 1985 to homologate with only 500 produced the less than 1,300 cc class of Group A for the British Rally Championship. These sport models were white and came with unique yellow vinyl decals, a 93 hp 13SB engine with twin Weber 40 DCOE carburettors, gave this  a top speed of 112 mph (180 km/h)  The 1.6 L multi point fuel-injected engine there was a Nova GTE" in pre-facelift models in the United Kingdom, later models were all called GSi and Nova SRi in the United Kingdom. In January 1988,

The first facelift in August 1987, the grille was modified, notchback and hatchback models had since the same grill, the GT and later the GSi had independent grills. At the tailgate of the hatchback models, a handle bar with push-button lock was introduced so that the tailgate could be opened without a key (if it was not completed).

In May 1988, the sporty GSi came with 1.6-liter OHC engine as a three-door hatchback on the market. First, he had an L3 Jetronic (E16SE, 74 kW / 100 hp), from 1989 optional Motronic M1.5 (C16SEI, 72 kW / 98 hp) and a G-Kat. In export (eg Switzerland) This was also available with 75 hp (C16NZ).In 1989.

At the second facelift in September 1990, the radiator grille and, in addition, the headlights and turn signals, the bumpers, side guards and fenders in the area of the turn signals were modified once again . The new bumpers were now in all versions front and rear over the entire surface, they are similar to those of the Astra F. The brand logo emigrated from the grille on the hood. Inside, a new dashboard with a completely different design. In addition, the equipment was much larger. The since 1987 only offered in export notchback models were now only four doors available.New was the Joy, who in the interior (optionally with sports seats) with bright red, yellow, turquoise or blue fabrics and details expected. The exterior paint was adapted to the rich colors of the fabrics.

The GSi initially received the 98-hp version of the 1.6-liter. In May 1992, the Motronic was replaced by a Multec M injection (C16SE, again 74 kW / 100 hp) as in the C14SE.
