The Cadillac El Camino was a concept vehicle that introduced the Cadillac Division of General Motors at the GM Motorama 1954. The name derives from the Spanish name El Camino Real, a street known in the US as Highway 101.
The two-door, two-seat coupe was painted in silver Gray and had large tail fins, as were seen in the following years, not only in Cadillac production models. The sides of the vehicle were decorated with spear-shaped bends, one running from the front wheel arch to the doors, the other attaching to the door and terminating at the rear While small inside, the overall length was still 200 inches. With a
overall height of 51 inches. The front of the car was the first to feature twin headlamps on the Cadillac and the chrome-plated, rocket-shaped bumper horns with rubber caps attached to the tips The wraparound Panoramic windshield swept back at a greater angle than any new cars from the time. The flat roof construction was kept in stainless steel and closed at the front and in the back with a panoramic window. The engine power came from a Cadillac V-8.
The coupe was accompanied by a roadster, the Cadillac La Espada, with the same applications. The car was painted in Apollo Gold (a creamy white with a slight gold-coloured metallic touch). He was equipped with individual seats and a centre console. There was also the lever for opening and closing the plastic top. Underneath a large warning sign was attached, which instructed the driver not to move the hood while driving. The rear-view mirror was mounted on the dashboard.
Both vehicles were never produced in series, but many styling details, such as the enormous tail fins and the spear-shaped bends on the sides of the vehicle, found themselves in the production model Eldorado Brougham 1955 again. The rubber-reinforced bumper horns in rocket shape and twin headlights were first realized in the Cadillac models of the years 1957/1958.
