The Chevrolet Corvette C6.R is a GT1 racing car developed by Pratt & Miller and General Motors for sports car racing .

History

The Corvette C6 Z06-R GT3 is based on the normal production Z06 of the Corvette C6. In 2005, the Z06-R was developed by the tuner Ernst Wöhr on behalf of Carsport Holland (Toine Hezemans). At his company " Callaway Competition " in Leingarten , the production vehicles are being converted to the Z06-R GT3. This racing version is exclusively for the FIA racing series according to GT3 regulations .

Externally, the Z06-R GT3 looks like the original Z06, but was aerodynamically tested in the wind tunnel . The original aluminum chassis has been replaced with a steel one to allow weldability with the FIA standard safety cell. The standard wheels were replaced by magnesium wheels from OZ with central locking, equipped with slicks(30 / 65-18 front and 31 / 71-18 rear). A Plexiglas rear window and a pneumatic lift system were installed. The engine was built by APP Racing Engines in the Netherlands. He has a special dry sump lubrication , CP pistons and a special camshaft, The maximum speed is about 6300 / min lower than the standard version (7000 / min), a higher speed is not necessary in the GT3, since the performance of the engine is limited by a FIA air flow restrictor.

Although the engine and thus the performance almost equal the production vehicle, the vehicle has a better handling due to lighter body made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic , sequential gearbox and the improved racing suspension.

The seven-liter V-engine with eight cylinders makes with 540 hp (397 kW) about 30 hp (22 kW) more than a LS7 production model. The maximum torque of 650 Nm is also similar to the normal Z06 with 637 Nm. But the Z06-R weighs almost 200 kg less. With a curb weight just over 1200 kg and together with the sequential gearbox, the GT3 Corvette accelerates from a standstill to 100 in 3.9 seconds and to 200 km / h in 10.2 seconds. With the normally built-in ratio a maximum speed of 285 km / h is possible, but can be increased with other gears in the transmission and thus changed gear ratio to 320 km / h.

For the 2012 season, App Racing Engines has developed a new 6.2-liter V8 race engine based on the LS3.

Since the 2008 season, the Corvette has a sequential 6-speed transmission from Hewland . The series tanks were replaced by FT3 safety tank cells made of aramidwith rapid tank system. The chassis is equipped with coil springs instead of leaf springs . The body was widened due to the large wheel diameter and rim widths by self-developed fenders made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic. In addition, a front splitter and a rear wing were attached for more downforce. The homologation weight is 1,272 kg. Depending on the current FIA Balance of Performance regulation, the racing weight can be increased by additional ballast .
