The Chevy Blazer XT-1 concept first debuted at the 1987 Chicago Auto Show in the USA as a brght yellow advanced off-road concept vehicle .

In 1987, the XT-1 was born, and Chevy tried something new by putting the "Blazer" moniker on a strangely shaped off-road design that looked like a minivan. The Blazer XT-1 was more than just a show car; the four-seater idea was completely practical, equipped with a huge panoramic glass roof. The Chevy Blazer XT-1 was created as a research vehicle by the GMs Advanced Vehicle Engineering division, and it was designed primarily as a technology showcase.

he concept is based on a truck with substantial off-roading skills and a lot of innovative technology. It possessed a jacked-up ride height, 10 inches (25.4 centimetres) of suspension travel, and a tight 14-foot (4.26-meter) turning circle thanks to a four-wheel steering system. To match the steer-by-wire system, which did not require a direct mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the actual driving wheels, Goodyear P225/65HR17 tyres had to be manufactured specifically for the Blazer.

An electronically controlled automatic gearbox delivered the power generated by the all-aluminum 4.3-liter engine derived from the Vortec V6 sourced from the  S-10 pickup. The transfer case was also electronically controlled and had a self-sensing module that automatically turned on the Blazer’s four-wheel drive upon detecting wheel spin.

The innovative technology in the design could also change torque between the front and back axles as needed to reduce wheel slip. The design of the interior was unique with many buttons and functions. The digital instrument cluster, dubbed "Futurevision" by Chevy and touted as a "three-dimensional driver and service information display," was fitted, although it was old in CRT form rather than the more current and advanced LCD. Several buttons in the middle remained in place while two clusters of extra controls were placed. More buttons were also located on the centre console, enabling rapid access to the majority of the concept's features.
