History

The Datsun Violet also as the Datsun 140J / 160J is a from 1973 to 1981 in two generations produced model of the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan .The first generation of the Violet was a derived from the contemporary Nissan Bluebird U610 model with rear-wheel drive and rigid rear axle, which was offered in Japan as a two- and four-door sedan and two-door hardtop coupe, later as a station wagon.

The Violet came as a four-door and coupe in October 1973 under the designations Datsun 140J (1.4 liter, 48 kW / 65 hp), 160J (1.6 liter, 52 kW / 72 hp) and 160J SSS coupe (1, 6 liters, 61 kW / 83 hp) in Japan there were also variants with 1.8-liter engine.

In 1976, the Violet received a facelift (type 711), in its train accounted for the 1.4-liter and the previous hatchback of the sedan was replaced by a notchback.

In Taiwan, the sports coupe was introduced in 1971 under the name Yue Loong VIP Brougham and produced by the Chinese Yulon Motor Company . The model was very successful there and replaced the Yue Loong Bluebird for eight years . Especially in high society, the luxury model was in demand and made for a large fan base. Nevertheless, the sister model of the Datsun Violet SSS was produced in just one generation. Thereafter, the model was replaced again in 1979 by the Bluebird.
